Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless launched at the beginning of November its first handsets powered by Google's Android operating system, the Motorola DROID and the HTC DROID Eris. The former, as many of you might already know, has managed to prove itself as the hottest Android device of the year, and Big Red seems determined to show users how they can benefit the most from it. Recently, the carrier posted a list of applications that can offer users the possibility to get the most out of their handsets, especially during the holiday season, but not restricted to it.

“This holiday season, customers can rely on the DROID by Motorola to help them ease holiday stress and manage demands of the season. Whether it's making a last-minute dinner reservation, comparison shopping for gifts, or even coming up with an exercise routine to stay fit in the midst of holiday feasts, this genius phone with access to thousands of applications and games from Android Market has Verizon Wireless customers covered,” the company notes on its website.

Some of the favorite apps that Verizon stresses upon include Frequent Flyers, a software solutions that enables anyone to easily keep track of flights and stay up to date on airport delays; Favorite Recipes so that one can easily search for recipes by ingredients, keywords and categories when planning a party for friends or family; OpenTable, through which one can make a dinner reservation; Google Maps Navigation (Beta) for turn-by-turn directions; or NexTag Mobile, an app that enables the comparison of price tags from thousands of online retailers.

Other apps that Verizon touts as proving very useful with the Motorola DROID include: Mobile Package Tracker for tracking FedEx Basic, FedEx SmartPost, United States Postal Service, DHL, UPS and TNT shipments; Google Sky Map that turns the DROID into a window to the night sky; CardioTrainer to keep fitness routines on track; or the Pandora Radio app. Those who haven't tried these apps just yet can do so by accessing the Android Market, where thousands of other software solutions are also available.
