Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has just made the purchase of a series of Android-based smartphones on its network much sweeter than before.

The company has slashed the price tags of its DROID series by $100, making many of them available for free upon the signing of a contract agreement, or bringing others to under $100 with a contract agreement included into the mix.

Of course, some of these devices were already available for purchase from Verizon for less than $100, but they are now free, and they should appeal more to users, that's for sure.

For example, Verizon took $49 off the price tag of Certified Pre–Owned devices like DROID 2 by Motorola, or the DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC, making them free on contract.

Also, the wireless carrier cut the cost of a Certified Pre–Owned DROID by Motorola from $29 to $0 and made the Certified Pre–Owned DROID X by Motorola free after a $100 price slash. New handsets have got their prices brought down as well, including the DROID 2 GLOBAL by Motorola, or DROID 2 GLOBAL by Motorola in White, both available for only $99 after the price drop.

DROID PRO by Motorola is available for $79 now, while the DROID X by Motorola can be acquired for $49. DROID R2D2 by Motorola is now free of two-year contracts.

All of these mobile phones can be seen listed with the new price tags on Verizon's website here (via BGR).

Apparently, the wireless carrier is getting ready for the inclusion of new smartphones in its offering, and it needs to make some room in its warehouses, thus the price cuts.

Of course, the more powerful DROID Bionic, or the HTC ThunderBolt are almost here, but they would also be more expensive than these DROIDs, and those interested in purchasing a new Android device and on saving some money at the same time should consider the new offering Verizon has in store for users.
