Continuing its expansion campaign across the United States, Verizon Wireless has reached the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. In order to enhance the high-speed 3G network, Verizon is prepared to invest over $121.3 million in the state of Illinois this year. Over $24 million of this investment will be channeled towards increasing the network's capacity, which will prove to be a crucial advantage over the company's competition in the area.

Through the investments in the region, Verizon Wireless aims to achieve a 34-percent boost in the network's data capacity. This will be possible due to the installment of multiple new cell sites in the area, as well as installing/upgrading the existent equipment on a few hundred existing ones.

“We stay well ahead of our customers’ growing needs by studying their data usage habits and test driving our network to experience firsthand the speeds and quality of our 3G network,” T.J. Fox, president – Illinois/Wisconsin Region, Verizon Wireless, said. “Network reliability is not just a catch phrase for us. It defines who we are.”

The total amount Verizon Wireless will invest in Wisconsin in 2010 is estimated at around $51.7 million, including the $20 million allocated exclusively for the network-capacity enhancements across the entire state. These upgrades will provide high-quality wireless Internet services to Wisconsin customers.

The company's expansion recipe seems to follow the same steps as in the other regions where Verizon has made important investments in the local wireless network. The company will build new cell sites across the state and upgrade the equipment on the existing ones.

The total amount invested by Verizon Wireless in its ten-year activity is estimated at $59 billion nationwide. With an average of $5.7 billion invested each year, Verizon has managed to drastically increase the coverage and network capacity across the United States. The states of Illinois and Wisconsin have received total network investments of over $1.65 billion.
