Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced today that it had made new 3G network expansions in the United States, this time around for the benefit of Dauphin County residents. The company has just activated a new cell site in Harrisburg, aimed at offering increased performance when it comes to wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Mobile Web over its airwaves.

According to the wireless operator, the new site is meant to offer increased connectivity in the area, along Progress Avenue to Route 83 in the north, along Route 22 to Candy Street in the south, along Route 22 to the Route 82 interchange in the east, as well as in the west, along Route 22 to Camby Street.

The new network enhancement should enable Verizon Wireless users in Dauphin County to enjoy better services from the company, including the sending of text, picture and video messages, accessing their email accounts directly from a mobile phone, view high-quality videos on the handsets, or access the VZ Navigator service for turn-by-turn directions. At the same time, the new cell site in Harrisburg should also deliver clearer reception and fewer dropped calls. Not to mention that users can also rely on the carrier’s network in case of emergencies, Verizon adds.

“We've always believed even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on,” said Mario Turco, president of Verizon Wireless’ Philadelphia Tri-State Region.”Our 3G high-speed Mobile Broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are underway that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the U.S., starting in 2010.”

Currently, Verizon has the largest coverage area for a 3G wireless network in the United States, the company states, adding that it accounts for a number of 89 million customers in the country, as of the end of the third quarter of the year. At the same time, Big Red also says that it is continuously working on improving the user experience its network can deliver to its great subscriber base.
