Available starting with June 3

Verizon Wireless customers will soon have the possibility to purchase a new Windows Mobile 6.5.3-based device on their carrier's website, namely the LG Fathom, announced today as being set to hit the shelves on June 3. The fresh handset is expected to arrive at Big Red as a powerful office tool, with a great deal of productivity capabilities packed inside, along with the possibility to make voice calls in over 220 countries, with support for data access in 200 countries.

The specifications list of the new mobile phone includes a 3.2-inch touchscreen display, coupled with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a 1 GHz processor inside, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1 capabilities, USB mass storage, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space. A built-in MP3 and WMA music player along with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile and video player for WMV, MP4, and 3GP formats offer a nice range of entertainment features for its users.

The new handset also comes with a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus and video recording capabilities, a wireless manager that enables and disables the connectivity for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and cellular network, Proximity sensor, dedicated task manager key, Flash User interface support, global roaming frequency capabilities, Adobe Reader LE for PDF content, support for Excel, OneNote, Word and PowerPoint files via Office Mobile, as well as support for ActiveSync.

Other features of the device include: - VZ Navigator capabilities – Receive audible turn-by-turn directions to millions of points of interest and share the directions with others - VZ Navigator Global capabilities – Get turn-by-turn directions and maps in English while navigating through more than 20 destinations such as Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. This easy-to-use application also marks distances in miles or kilometers and finds restaurants, gas stations, banks/ATMs and other popular spots using the Local Search feature - Luminous sensor designed to adjust LCD backlight brightness depending on light conditions.

The LG Fathom is set to become available for purchase on Verizon's airwaves on June 3 for $149.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate. Business sales channels will have the handset on sale come May 27.
