Initially slated for an August 25 release at Verizon Wireless, it appears that the LG Enlighten will be available for purchase on August 28 via Walmart.

It is unclear if Verizon officially announces the Android smartphone until Walmart's release, but the Enlighten will be available for just $0.97, according to the retailer's product catalog for the week starting August 28.

Also known as the LG Gelato Q, the Enlighten leaked a few weeks courtesy to the guys over at Pocketnow, who were able to unveil the phone's specs sheet and official pictures.

A different variant of the Enlighten will be released by either T-Mobile or AT&T next month, under a different moniker, LG Gelato.

However, while the Enlighten comes with a slide-out 4-row QWERTY keyboard, the Gelato is a full-touch mid-budget smartphone.

Verizon's LG Enlighten is codenamed VS700 and is allegedly powered by Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

Unfortunately, Walmart's product catalog only mentions that the phone comes with the Android operating system, but does not reveal which version of the platform it runs.

In fact, the only thing confirmed by the ad is the 3-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, though rumors claimed that the Enlighten features a slightly better 3.2-megapixel photo snapper.

Furthermore, the Enlighten should be equipped with a single core 800 Mhz, 150MB of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

The latest hearsay suggests that the Enlighten might be delivered with a free 2GB memory card included in the sales package, which has yet to be confirmed.

LG Enlighten comes with a medium-size 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors support and 320 x 480 pixels resolution.

Other highlights of the LG Enlighten include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP support, 3G Mobile Hotspot, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.
