Verizon Video is the new on-demand service offered by the U.S. major carrier for customers who own a 4G LTE or 3G smartphone.

The service is a new version of the carrier's video-on-demand application for mobile phones and offers access to current TV episodes, live streaming of major sporting and news events, and a high-quality video experience.

According to Verizon, the new service provides access to more than 250 current, full-episode TV shows from all the major broadcast networks, including ABC, NBC, CBS and MTV, and popular cable channels such as Comedy Central, Animal Planet, CNBC, Disney Channel, ESPN and many others.

In addition, programs from Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Nickelodeon and PBS Kids are also among the selected channels that will be available when away from the television.

Verizon has offered great video apps on our devices for many years, and now Verizon Video is the next way to discover, experience and enjoy high-quality video entertainment on Android smartphones,” said Kristi Crum, executive director, consumer solutions for Verizon Wireless.

Furthermore, customers who subscribe to Verizon Video have access to premium video content as part of NFL Mobile from Verizon, including NFL RedZone on Sunday afternoons, NBC’s Sunday Night Football and NFL Network.

Verizon Video application is now available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with all 4G LTE and select 3G smartphones that run Android 2.2 and up.

However, Verizon Video requires a $10 monthly subscription or customers can try the app for one day for $3.

Obviously, the service requires the use of a data package, as the download and use of Verizon Video incurs data usage that will be billed according to the customer’s data package.

Developed by RalNetworks, Verizon Video updates V CAST Video on select devices and current V CAST Video subscribers will be prompted to update the app the next time it launches.
