Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless recently announced plans to enhance the FiOS experience it offers to its customers by adding new features to the Mobile Remote and by expanding access to this app and to Remote DVR Manager. Both applications are available for download for free from Verizon.

According to the wireless operator, the FiOS TV Mobile Remote app is now available for more handsets, including the DROID ERIS by HTC, DROID Incredible by HTC, HTC Touch Pro2 from Verizon Wireless and the HTC Google Nexus One. Moreover, the company revealed that the Remote DVR Manager app currently sported support for more than 50 mobile phones.

“Verizon continues to add innovations to - and personalize -- the TV experience, bringing mobile applications across more than 50 devices within the last year,” said Eric Bruno, vice president of product management for Verizon. “As we continue to enhance our suite of mobile applications, we are addressing the needs of our customers, offering more choice and flexibility.”

The Mobile Remote application is now available for handsets that run under the latest flavor of Google's Android operating system, namely Android 2.1. The solution enables FiOS TV high-definition subscribers to use the handset as a TV remote, while offering personalization options based on the smartphone that is connected to the set-top box. Not to mention that one can enjoy photos on the handset directly on the TV, while enjoying the same features as with the standard FiOS TV remote via the Mobile Remote app. Big Red announced enhancements brought to its mobile remote interface on smartphones too, through the addition of two new features for immediate access to FiOS TV Video on Demand (VOD) and an option to return to live FiOS TV programming. Users can browse, search or purchase on-demand titles by hitting the VOD button, while going back to live TV when hitting the FiOS TV button. Additional info on FiOS TV can be found on the carrier's website here.

“In addition to enhancing and expanding Mobile Remote, Verizon is also expanding its popular remote DVR management application, now available on more than 50 devices including most Verizon Wireless BlackBerry devices and Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Customers can review, change or add recording requests; record an entire series; delete recorded programs; browse and search TV and VOD listings; set parental controls; check their DVR recorder status and more -- all through their mobile device, anytime, anywhere,” the wireless carrier concluded.
