No release date emerged

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is expected to soon announce the availability of a new high-end device powered by Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, the Samsung Omnia II, which has been spotted recently at CTIA Wireless, and which still doesn't have an official launch date added to its name.

However, while waiting for the handset to be introduced officially and to reach Verizon's airwaves, one would certainly like to take a look at it, and the new images with the Samsung Omnia II that emerged into the wild offer you exactly this possibility. WMExperts already came up with a hands-on video with the device at CTIA, and now they also stumbled upon the new images with it, coming from the MobileTechReview forums.

Most of you might already be familiar with what the handset has to offer, yet some details should also be noted, such as the fact that the Samsung Omnia II that will come to Verizon's offering is reportedly sporting a 5-megapixel photo snapper, and not an 8MP one, as expected before. At the same time, it seems that the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS is still present on the handset, though we’re sure that users would rather have it powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.

Other pieces of information on the handset also include the fact that it should come with a “Samsung Widget store” on board, something that might have been already expected due to the fact that the South Korean phone maker already opened the development of Widgets to third-party developers (Samsung's own distribution system will offer them to users).

Verizon has already launched its first Windows Mobile 6.5-powered device, the Imagio, and should soon come to the market with the Omnia II as well. Hopefully, the carrier will pack it with the latest flavor of the OS, considering that Samsung already announced that its Omnia handsets would sport the platform. Stay tuned for more updates on this matter.
