Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has announced today that it has expanded its 3G network to cover Hudson County, so that both the residents in the area and visitors would be able to enjoy the high-speed 3G services the company offers. The operator announced that two new cell sites had been activated in the area, bringing wireless calling, text messaging and Mobile Web surfing to the Hudson County.

According to the company, the new cells are meant to improve the coverage and capacity of its 3G network in Kearney – along Central Avenue from Passaic Avenue to Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard North and on McCarter Highway from Clark Street to 4th Avenue – and in Bayonne – near Bayonne Park along Broadway and John F. Kennedy Blvd. from 33rd to 42nd streets.

Verizon Wireless said that the new improvements brought to its network coverage were meant to offer customers the possibility to send and receive email and text or picture and video messages, as well as to watch high-quality videos and to access the functionality offered by VZ Navigator, not to mention the fact that the reception had been enhanced as well.

The wireless carrier also announced that the new network enhancements were only a part of its move towards investing more so as to be able to meet the growing demand for its voice and data services. Back in 2008, the company says, it invested $238 million to improve its services in the metro New York and New Jersey.

“We've always believed even the most advanced cell phone is only as good as the network it runs on,” said Pat Devlin, regional president. “Our 3G high-speed Mobile Broadband network is the largest and most reliable in the United States, and field tests are underway that will enable us to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE (Long Term Evolution)-based 4G service in the U.S., starting in 2010.”
