Cruz Reader, Cruz Tablet, and Cruz StoryPad

Designer of premium, high performance desktop computers, notebooks, and peripherals Velocity Micro, recently announced the launch of a series of Android-based mobile devices, including the Cruz Reader, the Cruz Tablet, in addition to the appealing and intuitive Cruz StoryPad. According to the company, the new the Cruz line starts at only $149.

The new Cruz Reader comes with a sleek design, while boasting a touchscreen display, along with a wide range of multimedia features. While the Cruz Reader is meant to open a new era in the e-readers segment, the new Cruz Tablet should prove a great multimedia option for Android fans out there. It boast a great amount of storage capabilities, complemented by the multi-touch screen and other features more.

“Since 1992, Velocity Micro has been dedicated to building remarkable consumer electronics,” said Randy Copeland, President and CEO of Velocity Micro. “With the development of the Cruz line, we were able to take those enthusiast sensibilities and package them for the mainstream consumer to create a product that’s not only amazing, but affordable as well.”

The new Cruz Reader comes with a 7-inch touchscreen display that boasts a 800 x 600 pixel resolution and a 4:3 ratio, and with 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and full Web browser support. At the same time, the device includes support for high-resolution video playback, built-in accelerometer, SD card slot for additional storage space (a 2GB card included in the package), and a battery that can offer up to 10 hours of use or over 24 hours of standby time, with a replaceable battery.

Priced at $199, the device also includes: - Google Android Operating System - Built-in Dictionary, Notepad, Calendar, Alarm Clock, Contacts, Games, and other useful apps - Enough built in storage for hundreds of books - Access to over 2 Million ebooks via included Borders E-book library portal application - Access to the Cruz Market, an open content portal for downloading apps, magazines, and videos from a broad array of content providers.

The Cruz Tablet sports a price tag of $299, comes with a 7-inch 16:9 ratio touchscreen display, 802.11n Wi-Fi connectivity options for fast data transfer, integrated microphone for voice recording, and 4GB of built-in memory, complemented by a memory card slot for additional storage space (an 8GB SD card in the box).

The last device in the series, the new Cruz StoryPad, is priced at only $149, and is meant to offer kids the possibility to read, learn, and interact via its intuitive interface, while also sporting a drop resistant package. Its specs list includes a 7-inch touchscreen display, high quality video and audio playback, SD card for additional storage, preinstalled audio book content, and three color variations, such as pink, blue, and green.

According to Velocity Micro, the new Cruz Reader and Cruz StoryPad are expected to become available for purchase in August via all major retailers.
