14 DAY TRIAL // A new version of Visidon AppLock, the application that offers the owners of Android-based mobile phones the possibility to better protect their handsets, is now available for download from the Android Market.
The mobile software is available for download as version 1.3, and comes with support for all handsets that run under Android 2.3 Gingerbread or above.
The application comes with a very important requirement, namely that the handset would include a front-facing camera.
For those who did not hear of this application before, we should note that it offers users the possibility to snap a photo of themselves and then lock content on the handsets so that no one else could be able to access it.
“Fast, convenient and cool way to protect your mobile with face recognition. Protect any application (i.e. SMS, Gallery, E-Mail, Facebook, etc.) on your phone using face recognition. Convenient and cool way to increase safety of your private apps and content,” the app's description in the Android Market reads.
“Visidon AppLock lets you choose the apps to be protected. Your face is a key to open them! Application uses the frontal camera of your mobile and verifies in real-time that the face matches the one allowed to access the private apps.”
The developer of this application notes that the software was developed and tested on the Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000, but that the user experience delivered on other handsets might be different.
The developer advises users to “also add Visidon AppLock itself and any application that can be used to close or unistall applications or services (task manager, settings etc.) as well as any application that can be used to install new applications (market, myfiles etc.) to the protection list.”
By default, the application comes with the security level set to minimum, but users can already increase it, provided that they do not feel that the protection is as strong as it should be.
