Fans of the “James Bond” franchise are in for a huge surprise: producers on the upcoming 23rd film, due out in 2012, are working overtime to get Rachel Weisz to be in it. She won’t be playing a Bond girl, though, it has emerged.

The Sun claims to have it from very reliable sources that producers on the upcoming 007 film have set their eyes on Weisz for a role in it. Contrary to what one may be expect, she won’t play the love interest, but the villain.

There is a problem with Weisz saying yes, the same tabloid reports: the fact that she’s now in a relationship with Bond leading man Daniel Craig may force her to turn down the offer.

“Her character would be head of the sinister organization behind the villainy in Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace rather than Bond’s love interest,” The Sun writes.

While Weisz would normally jump at the opportunity, she’s now forced to think it through because she doesn’t want to mix business and pleasure, as the saying goes, by starring in the same movie as Craig now that they’re an item.

“Casting Rachel was going to be a surprise twist as everyone would assume she’d be a Bond girl when really she would play a villain. But the fly in the ointment is that they are now dating,” an insider says for The Sun.

The same tabloid reports that production is well under way for the film, which is tipped to be Daniel Craig’s biggest to date, including nearly-impossible stunts and, of course, car chases.

A possible title is also being circulated online as we speak. It will probably be “Red Sky at Night.”

“But Ian Fleming’s three remaining titles The Property of a Lady, Risico and The Hildebrand Rarity are also being mooted,” says The Sun.

“Luxury brands Aston Martin, Sony and Omega are being wooed as sponsors. And planned stunts could include a death-defying winter sports chase,” writes the tabloid.
