14 DAY TRIAL // While the new smartphone and tablet models launched during the 2011 Mobile World Congress captured most of the attention of the press and end-users alike, the expo also witnessed the introduction of more than a fair share of cell-phone accessories, just like the Supertooth Disco speaker we had the chance of getting up close and personal to.
The Disco is compatible with any device that support the Bluetooth 2.0 AD2P standard, including Apple's iPhone and iPad as well as a wide range of Android and Windows Phone 7 smartphones, and can provide up to 28W of RMS power.
This high-power output is possible since the compact speaker encloses a pair of 8W Neodyne audio speakers as well as a 12W subwoofer.
All these are powered by the on-board NiMh power pack which, according to Supertooth, should be able to provide up to 10 hours of music playback at the highest sound level and 10 hours at a medium volume.
The stand-by time is estimated at 1,500 hours and the battery requires about 3 hours to recharge from an empty state.
The front of the unit is pretty bare, as it features only a jog-dial surrounded by a few additional control buttons and a Bluetooth indicator/Low battery indicator LED.
Moving to the back of the unit, we find a 12V charge port, a charge indicator light, as well as a 3.5mm standard audio jack used for connecting non-Bluetooth devices to the speaker.
During our short time with the device, we managed to take a few snapshots and get to see how it performs in a real life environment.
We are happy to report that everything worked out OK as pairing the Supertooth Disco with various Bluetooth devices proved to be quite easy and fast while the audio quality was up to par (not audiophile quality, but more than OK).
