Uncharted: Golden Abyss, the upcoming iteration of the action adventure series for the PlayStation Vita handheld, has just received a special gameplay video, showcasing some of the new levels that were presented by Sony at last week's TGS 2011 conference.

The Uncharted franchise already has legions of fans all over the world, largely because the two games released up until now by development studio Naughty Dog and published by Sony were extremely impressive and took advantage of the power of the PlayStation 3.

With Sony set to debut a new handheld platform, in the form of the PlayStation Vita, the company has tasked its Bend studio with developing an iteration of the series exclusively for the new portable device.

We've already seen some impressive details and videos about Uncharted: Golden Abyss, complete with a hands-on experience from Gamescom 2011.

Now, after the 2011 Tokyo Games Show closed its doors, Sony has presented a special video of the new Uncharted title, with never before seen footage, narrated and explained by Golden Abyss writer John Garvin.

The new demonstration really highlights the special effects that can be rendered by the Vita, with Drake needing at first to navigate through a burning warehouse, climbing on pipes and platforms while everything was being consumed by the fire.

Garvin highlights that the Vita allows not just for realistic animations, using the same motion capture technology employed by Naughty Dog for the full pledged Uncharted PlayStation 3 games, but also accurate physics, as the Vita supports the popular Havok physics technology.

Cinematics, like in any Uncharted game, play an important role in Golden Abyss, with one of the new characters introduced by the title, Chase, being portrayed in the footage below.

Stealth gameplay is also included, as Drake will have to use all his skills throughout the story, not just regular weapons, against his enemies. Still, to show that it's still a shooter at heart, the video ends with a pretty hectic firefight, with Drake being swarmed by a large number of enemies.
