Sony has announced that it plans to release an Ultimate Edition version of God of War III, the action title set to be launched early in 2010, as a PlayStation 3 exclusive and is expected to attract quite a lot of players to the said console.

Players who will pick up the Ultimate Edition should get an art book showing off the designs of certain characters and settings as they were developed by the team, a soundtrack of the songs featured in the entire trilogy of games, a documentary called “Unearthing the Legend,” which is set to display how God of War III was created, and a full metal album inspired by the exploits of Kratos. All of this comes in a box designed to resemble the famous Pandora one.

When they start up the game, players who bought the Ultimate Edition are set to receive a new skin for the characters, named the Dominus, and a new combat arena that will offer seven tough challenges for players to beat.

God of War III will see Kratos completing his revenge against the various gods of the Pantheon, as angry as before and better armed than ever. Sony has already shown portions of the game, including sequences where Cyclops are being ridden by the main character and more enemies on screen at the same time than ever in the series.

At the moment, the offer is only available in North America. Players from Europe and from other regions will have to wait a little until Sony reveals what the Ultimate Edition will look like and how it will be made available. United States Kratos fans are also very fortunate to get the demo of God of War III if they pick up a Blu-ray release of the science fiction blockbuster District 9, which again European players cannot do.
