Assassin's Creed II received a live-action adaptation from Ubisoft, but it won't be a classic theater release. Assassin's Creed: Lineage will be hosted by YouTube, and it will have three episodes. The first of them will be available exclusively on the mentioned site and it will be available by the end of the month. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced the adaptation with great enthusiasm: "Ubisoft is excited to share a new Assassin's Creed experience with the public.”

He continued by adding that "the Assassin's Creed Lineage film series is part of Ubisoft's ongoing efforts to reinforce its intellectual properties by bringing them to multiple entertainment mediums, providing gamers with a more immersive experience when they play as Ezio, the master assassin of Assassin's Creed II." The movie will have as protagonist Ezio's father, Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, who appears to be part of the assassins' guild as well. The episodes will portray some of his exploits during the Italian Renaissance period.

The adaptation will also include one of the characters that will be present in Assassin's Creed II. The real life ruler of the Florentine Republic, Lorenzo de' Medici, will make an appearance in the film. A trailer has been released, showcasing combined live action and computer generated imagery that has been developed by Hybride Technologies, some of whose work we've seen before, in Frank Miller's live-action adaptation, the movie 300.

Ubisoft claims Assassin's Creed: Lineage should help with the player’s immersion in the upcoming game's universe, but that might not work as well as they expect. The first episode will be available exclusively on YouTube, but the site has serious technical limitations when it comes to immersion. Even if you choose to force the site's player into full screen and the movie is in an HD format, the overall quality will still be less than what we expect from a movie nowadays. Even so, the first episode will be available on October 27, while the full film will come out on November 17.
