Video game publisher Ubisoft clarifies its stance on the pay-to-win concept for Assassin’s Creed 3 and maintains that players will be able to get access to all the content in the game without using any real-world money if they so wish.

Eurogamer cites a statement from Ubisoft which says that, “The Erudito Credits are a new way of unlocking content in Assassin’s Creed 3′s Multiplayer. People who have little time can use Erudito Credits as a shortcut to unlock game items from level 1 to 50 (excluding Prestige levels and relics rewards).”

It ads, “This is not mandatory, all items sold in Erudito Credits are also available in Abstergo Credits and can be unlocked through normal progression like previous years.”

When Erudito Credits were initially revealed as being part of Assassin’s Creed 3, some players feared that Ubisoft might introduce a range of items that could only be bought using real-world money.

The publisher will probably use Erudito Credits in order to see how many players are willing to play and then grind the multiplayer content in Assassin’s Creed 3 in order to get access to all the game items and how many will simply choose to pay in order to get the hardest-to-obtain ones.

The data will presumably allow the company to better calibrate its future efforts for the multiplayer element of the series, which might at one point support a full MMO-style experience.

Assassin’s Creed 3 has been available in North America since yesterday and it is now officially launched in Europe.

All those who buy it will be well served by getting the day-one patch which fixes quite a few bugs and problems.

The PC version of Assassin’s Creed 3 will be launched later during November and the Wii U from Nintendo will also get a port of the game.
