Wireless carrier US Cellular is gearing up for the release of new Android-based devices coming from Samsung, and the Galaxy S II should be one of them.

The handset was long rumored to be on its way to the carrier, and confirmation on the matter has just emerged, courtesy of the Federal Communication Commission.

The FCC has just approved the Galaxy S II (model number SCH-R760), US Cellular’s flavor of the flagship smartphone. No specific info on the hardware capabilities of this Galaxy S II model emerged, but they should be the same as those for the original.

Thus, users will get a 4.3 inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display, along with a 1.2GHz application processor, an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back with support for HD video recording, 16GB of internal memory, and the like.

The release date is unknown at the moment, but it should not be too long before the device becomes official, so stay tuned.
