Prepaid customers who prefer U.S. Cellular's network will be happy to know that the carrier has just announced the addition of two new Android smartphones to its prepaid plans, the Samsung Gem and HTC Merge

U.S. Cellular already offers the LG Optimus U and LG Apex with U.S. Cellular's monthly prepaid plans that range from $40 to $70, which raises the number of smartphones available with prepaid plans to four.

It is also worth mention that the activation fees for monthly prepaid plans $50 and higher are currently waived.

In addition, the carrier announced that the free app Social Scene, which offers users full integration with Facebook, Twitter and a other social networks into one place, is now available for download to prepaid data customers on 11 of the carrier's most popular messaging phones.

The application enables users the possibility to quickly upload pictures from their device, Tweet and re-Tweet in real time, as well as stream customized RSS feeds from more than 50 news, entertainment and sports sites.

By adding two more feature-packed smartphones and Social Scene on messaging phones, we are giving customers more prepaid options that help them stay organized and connected to family and friends while avoiding bill surprises,” said David Kimbell, vice president of marketing for U.S. Cellular.

Potential customers can now purchase the Samsung Gem via U.S. Cellular for $139.99, while the HTC Merge can be acquired for $299.99.

Those who choose the $60 Prepaid Plan, which is aimed at customers who primarily text and surf the web, will be offered 450 voice minutes, unlimited text, picture and video messaging, and 2GB of data.

Furthermore, customers who choose the $70 Prepaid Plan will get unlimited voice and messaging, along with 2GB of data.

According to the carrier, an activation fee may apply for prepaid plans below $50.
