Gigabyte may be working on new video cards, but it has also not been idle on the power supply market, as revealed by the new series of efficient models, currently made up of two members.

One of the most important elements in the eyes of consumers and enterprise users alike, when it comes to power supplies, is efficiency.

This aspect was not overly important several years ago, but the economic recession forced emphasis on it, especially during 2008, one of the most troubling years in some time, financially speaking.

In order to easily qualify PSUs according to efficiency, the 80Plus rating system was created, which can label such products as Bronze, Silver, Gold and even Platinum.

The two new power supplies that Gigabyte created are 80Plus Silver certified, having an efficiency of up to 88%.

They are aptly called Sumo Power Silver and boast several assets, besides just their high power outputs of 900 W and 1,200 W.

One of said advantages is the modular build, which allows one to put in only those cables required by the existing hardware.

This enables a better airflow on the inside of whatever case the Sumo Power Silver ends up serving.

Gigabyte also implemented sleeved cables, as well as several 12V rails, five on the 900 W model and six on the other one.

Furthermore, both are compliant with the ATX12V V2.3 standard and enjoy the service of a 120mm blue LED fan.

For further emphasis, Gigabyte describes them as having “an entirely new circuit design and has an 80 Plus Silver certification to fulfill the needs of hardcore gamers and overclockers whose main requirements are performance and efficiency.”

Finally, a large, internal heatsink maximizes the cooling prowess, for extra stability and longevity. Anyone interested in the products need only go here, although their prices are still a mystery.
