David Jaffe, the co-founder and creative director of Eat, Sleep, Play, the studio that’s currently developing Twisted Metal for the PlayStation 3, has confirmed that the first production run of the upcoming destruction racing title will include a very special voucher for a digital download of Twisted Metal Black, the popular iteration of the series that appeared for the PlayStation 2 back in 2001.

The Twisted Metal franchise has been around ever since the release of the PlayStation 1, delivering a variety of stellar and not-so-stellar experiences to fans of the gaming consoles made by Sony ever since.

After a period of inactivity, the franchise is going back to its roots with Twisted Metal for the PlayStation 3, which returns to the darker and grittier roots of the combat racing title, with really freakish characters and all sorts of outlandish vehicles that can be driven by them.

Now, after the game was delayed from its fall 2011 release to February, 2012, with Eat, Sleep, Play and Sony saying that more time was needed to make Twisted Metal a game that honors the long-running series, a big piece of news has just been announced by the game’s designer, David Jaffe.

In a video posted on the PlayStation blog, Jaffe confirms that the first run of Twisted Metal on PS3, aka the first series of discs of the game that will go on sale when it’s released, will have a voucher for a digital copy of Twisted Metal Black.

Owners of the new game will just have to head on over to the PlayStation Store and redeem the code for a free copy of the classic PlayStation 2 title, from which this new iteration borrows heavily, using many of its characters and gritty design.

Jaffe also says that more great details will be shared in the near future about the new game, so fans need to keep their eyes peeled for them, while enjoying its final cover above and the designer’s video below.
