“Twilight” fans have yet another reason to rejoice, especially if they happen to be in or near the state of Texas in July-August this year, as the largest convention of its kind has just been announced. TwiCon, the first “Twilight” conference will last four days, with tickets going on sale as early as May 1, Entertainment Tonight informs.

The “Twilight”-based convention will include music inspired by the popular characters in Stephanie Meyer’s books and the “Twilight” film, and even fun events such as a special Volturi Masque Ball. At this particular point in time, it is not yet known whether any cast member from “Twilight” or the upcoming “New Moon” will take part in the event, but speculation has it that at least some of them will put in an appearance.

“Stephanie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ series is branching out from its Comi-Con booth and getting a convention of its own, TwiCon! The big state of Texas is hosting the largest United States conference inspired by the wildly popular vampire series ‘Twilight.’ From July 30-August 2, ‘Twilight’ aficionados will storm the Sheraton Dallas Hotel for series inspired music and fun!” Entertainment Tonight says.

In other “Twilight” news, a director for the third film in the “Saga,” “Eclipse,” has already been named and confirmed. Summit Entertainment has confirmed that David Slade of the “30 Days of Night” and “Hard Candy” fame will helm the third installment because of his being a “visionary” director who can truly do the book justice, as E! Online informs.

“I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing Eclipse. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise.” Stephanie Meyer said of the news. President of Production at Summit Erik Feig also confirmed the reports, saying that Slade’s experience and vision positioned him as the ideal candidate for the job. “Stephenie Meyer’s ‘Eclipse’ is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds.” Feig explained.

“Eclipse” is scheduled for theatrical release on June 30, 2010.
