“Twilight” made a killing at the box-office when it was released in 2008, with echoes of its success still being seen in the impressive sales of related merchandise. With this in mind, it’s no wonder that hype is already building up for the third film in the “Saga,” “Eclipse,” despite the fact that not even the second one is finished.

EW is reporting (via Collider) that David Slade is in talks to direct the third film, although nothing has been made final yet. Slade, for those who are not familiar with his work, is known for “Hard Candy” and “30 Days of Night,” also a vampire story, but one that failed to get critics and / or fans of the genre too ecstatic. However, it is the latter that is said to speak in favor of him with Summit, the movie studio, since his vision on the classic vampire story is different, therefore would go just wonderfully with “Eclipse.”

Nevertheless, fans must bear in mind that this is not the first director’s name that is being tossed around in relation to “Eclipse.” Just recently, shortly after Summit announced the release date for the third installment, rumor broke out that Drew Barrymore was in talks with the studio for the director’s chair. The actress had made her directorial debut with “Whip It!” with Ellen Page and had the right attitude for the film, it was said at the time of her possible involvement with the vampire flick. As we all know, nothing came of this particular rumor, so chances are the same goes for David Slade.

However, until more specifics are made public regarding “Eclipse,” fans still have to keep up with the genuine “New Moon” bombardment that is coming their way with increasing force. Only today, Taylor Lautner, who plays wolf Jacob in the film, spoke about what it’s like to be a part of such a major production as the “Twilight Saga” is; CosmoGirl outtakes featuring Robert Pattinson, Lautner and Kellan Lutz surfaced; a report emerged saying that “Breaking Dawn,” the fourth and final film in the franchise, was already in the works; and the first official promo shot of the wolf pack on “New Moon” was made public.

All in all, the “Twilight Saga” phenomenon is gaining in proportions as we speak, several movie-oriented publications are pointing out. Whether David Slade ends up helming “Eclipse” is still to be determined – and confirmed, for that matter – so make sure you keep an eye on this space for more details.
