Turtle Beach has just announced the company's most advanced gaming headset yet designed with Sony's PlayStation 3 console in mind, the Ear Force PX5, that packs Dolby 7.1 surround sound, a built-in programmable digital signal processor as well as XBOX 360 compatibility.

The headset allows for independent customization of the chat, game and microphone signals, all the custom settings being stored as presets which can be selected on the fly in different parts of the game.

According to Turtle Beach, this function can be used to emphasize sounds like footsteps or ammo reloads that might otherwise be difficult to hear.

Furthermore, the users can even program the headset to disguise their voice or enhance those of other online players when the action is getting too loud.

All the personalized presets will be available through a special software, that can be downloaded from the company's website.

The PX5 is also the first headset to incorporate dual radios so gamers can use one for listening to game audio and the other to chat on the PlayStation Network or to answer phone calls via Bluetooth.

“Turtle Beach has always been recognized for technological innovation,” says Carmine Bonanno, president and CEO.

“We pioneered the console gaming headset industry by launching the first stereo Xbox headset, the first with wireless gaming headsets and the first with innovative features to enhance the gaming experience, like Chat Boost.”

“With the introduction of the programmable PX5, we’re poised to again revolutionize the gaming headset market.

Allowing gamers to customize their audio environment gives them an opportunity to take charge of their console gaming experience in ways that have never before been available,” concluded the company's rep.

The Turtle Beach Ear Force PX5 gaming headset will be available in spring 2011 with a rather hefty $249.95 price tag.
