One of the nicest announcements of the last months was that Kalypso Media and Haemimont Games would be partnering up in order to deliver a new installment in the Tropico series. At the E3 trade show, a developer interview was released, shedding more light on what players might expect from Tropico 3.

The developers at Haemimont Games stated that their goal was to create a sequel that managed to both introduce new features and more options while also eliminating some of the micro management and tedious mechanics, which tended to put off more casual gamers.

Still, such elements like edicts, including one related to nuclear testing on the island and one about the secret police, will be in the game, and the diplomatic aspect, balancing the foreign policy of the tropical paradise between superpowers U.S.A. and the U.S.S.R. and dealing with world wide events like the economic crisis. Interestingly, players will be able to select before a scenario whether they would like disasters to be in their game or not.

The political system is also being looked at by Haemimont. There are now seven political factions, each of them with an agenda and a leader, and citizens themselves can now protest and even join an anti-establishment guerrilla. The president can meet with people in person to calm them down and he can also deliver a speech before the election, trying to sway people to his position. The developers are also saying that the patent humor of the series will be present in Tropico 3.

Haemimont is also stating that after a player completes one challenge in the game, he/she has the option of sharing his/her scenario with other players. They can jump in and continue to rule the island, although no additional score is added and no campaign progress is granted. This allows for players to brag with their best developed areas and creates competition amongst those playing Tropico 3.
