Trillian, the multi-protocol instant messaging client for desktop computers, Web and mobile phones, will soon be available for the Android platform as well. Cerulean Studios, the company behind the product, has announced that a beta version is in the works and is scheduled for launch in a few weeks.

The new release will support Android versions starting with 1.6 and will include all the features users have become familiar with. These will be able to chat with their Facebook Chat, Windows Live, Yahoo!, AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP and MySpaceIM contacts using a unified interface. From one simple screen, users will be able to set their status, avatar and display name, and then chat with multiple contacts, transfer photos, send buzzes using multiple tabbed chat windows.

Trillian for Android will not be a mere clone of the iPhone version, the user interface being especially designed for Google's operating system. Integration with the Android notification system will allow users to be conveniently informed when they receive a new message.

Those who use Trillian on more than one platform will be able to synchronize contacts, avatars, status, accounts and more between the Android application and Trillian for desktop computers or mobile phones. Other features will include contact list sorting, grouping, metacontacts support, privacy settings, various ways to organize, emoticon support and more.

Besides the upcoming Android version, mobile users can also enjoy the instant messaging application on iPhone and BlackBerry smartphones. The iPhone version was recently updated to take advantage of iOS 4 multitasking and iPhone 4's retina display, and to add MSN multiple sign-in support, while the BlackBerry version is still in public beta stage.

If you want to try the Trillian for Android beta version when it arrives, you can sign up on the Cerulean Studios' website and be notified when the application is released. Some screenshots of the app can be seen below.
