SCEA's CEO claims that unlike Microsoft, Sony will be producing their own content

You'd think that by getting yourself an expensive PlayStation 3 console, you'll enjoy almost everything Xbox 360 users benefit from and then some. The reality is, Sony have quite some rough times ahead of them, although they're putting on a happy face stating loud and clear that people are going to see results within the following years. This is why GameDaily.biz talked to SCEA's CEO, Jack Tretton, about PlayStation Network's video downloads.

According to the interviewers, Tretton believes that Sony's doing just fine at the moment, although everyone knows that Xbox Live is clearly kicking its butt at video downloads and any other sort of downloads for that matter. More than that, he also reckons that, unlike Microsoft, Sony will be producing their own content to make available for download. So if a consumer wants Rihanna's last video, instead of talking to whoever has it, SCEA will be calling her up to shoot the video all over again at their HQ...?

"Everybody in the world has rightly pointed out that Sony is uniquely positioned with having a great heritage in hardware, and a great heritage in software -- they own a music business, they own a successful movie studio and a successful gaming division. So just based on our internal resources alone we should be able to take advantage of synergies. We're working closely together to come up with a service that we think will be of benefit to the consumer as well as not just the PlayStation brand but potentially across all Sony properties."

He also hinted that it'll be years before users can finally enjoy what PSN can potentially produce, using the following words: "within this platform lifecycle." So basically, when Microsoft provides its XBL users super-high-ultra-realistic-kazillion-colour-per-square-nanometre-definition-video, not to mention tons of downloadable games, SCEA will finally be giving PSN users... Rihanna's last video.
