Get ready to battle some bots

Hollywood is seemingly interfering with the games industry on a weekly basis these days, as last week we saw EA snag the rights for a future Bourne video game, and this week features Activision, who has just announced that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen would arrive this summer, with its action based in the universe of the giant transforming robots from cartoons, comics and, most recently, movies.

Don't worry about missing out on it, as a multitude of Activision studios will make sure that it will appear on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 2, DS and, last but not least, the PlayStation Portable. The plot is quite simple, as you will be able to choose which side you're on, the good Autobots or the not-so-good Decepticons, and your own character from, as Activision promises, “the largest, most diverse range of playable Transformers.” Each robot will have specific abilities and weapons that it will get a chance to showcase in the multitude of battle fields that the game will take you to, from Cairo to Shanghai and everywhere in between. Of course, the trademark ability of the robots to transform in cars, planes or boats will also be featured.

“The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen videogame will give fans the chance to experience their favorite Autobots and Decepticons in an all-new, movie-inspired adventure packed with the thrilling and explosive action that only the Transformers universe can deliver,” said Rob Kostich, vice president of global brand management, Activision, Inc. “We are thrilled to announce that after experiencing the rush of commanding colossal robots on their own, players can challenge their friends for the first time ever in full-featured, blistering multiplayer action as their favorite characters.”

Among the multitude of studios that will work on this project are Luxoflux, Beenox Studios or Krome Entertainment. While the high end versions like the PS3, Xbox 360 or PC will receive their own variety of the game, the DS will get two separate titles, one featuring the Autobots and the other featuring the Decepticons; the PSP variant will be a “fast-paced action arcade title.”

Even if Activision didn't mention a concrete release schedule, you can be sure info will surface around the time the movie with the same name appears in theaters on June 26. Until then, check back here to find out more details.
