Video game publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that its new Transformers: Dark of the Moon has now been shipped to retailers, with the game ready to launch on June 14 in North America and ten days later in Europe.

The Michael Bay summer blockbuster on which the video game is based will be released in theaters on June 29, meaning that players will have enough time to finish the game before lining up to get an opening day ticket.

David Oxford, who is the executive vice president at Activision Publishing, stated, “The Transformers: Dark of the Moon game lets fans experience the gripping battles and original prologue story that precede the highly anticipated film. The team at High Moon Studios has created an amazing TRANSFORMERS narrative that unfolds through an epic single-player campaign and allows fans to play as their favorite characters in head-to-head multiplayer action.”

Mark Blecher, the senior vice president of digital media and marketing at Hasbro, added, “Activision has delivered a stellar prologue game leading up to the blockbuster movie. Hasbro is looking forward to offering fans of the TRANSFORMERS brand and gamers alike an exciting video game to expand on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon experience this summer.”

Activision needs Transformers: Dark of the Moon to be at least a moderate success, mainly to prove that the movie tie in video game has a future.

The company also needs to have a hit that is not related to Call of Duty in order to shed the growing image it has as a one franchise company (when Blizzard made titles are not taken into account).

Transformers: Dark of the Moon introduces players to a new state for the Autobots and Decepticons, which should offer the same firepower as the robot form and the same quick and agile movement as the vehicle form.

The game will offer varied battlefields like urban areas, a military facility in Siberia and a jungle deep in Central America.
