Bringing back the old cast, with some interesting additions as well

This Christmas, a new comedy promises to bring family fun – with some irreverent humor on the side as well. The third installment in the Focker saga, if one may call it that, is scheduled for theatrical release only days before Christmas, and fans can now rejoice at the idea that a first trailer for it has just been released, as Entertainment Weekly confirms.

As we also reported on several past occasions, production for “Little Fockers” saw a couple major setbacks even before it started properly. However, the biggest was when Dustin Hoffman reportedly pulled out of the film due to conflicting schedules, with reports saying the best he could do would be to agree to a cameo towards the end of the film. IMDB still lists him in the credits section, but the trailer seems to hint that he’s been replaced by Harvey Keitel, so what exactly came of that rumor is not yet known.

The trailer itself is pretty promising, but focuses too much on the odd and hilarious connection between Greg Focker (Ben Stiller) and Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro) to the detriment of the two additions to the Focker family, played by Daisy Tahan and Colin Baiocchi. In fact, EW says, because of this very fact, the entire thing could play like a tired routine, giving the feeling of done it before, seen it before. Then again, trailers can be misleading like that, and the same could happen here, but fans won’t know until the actual release at the end of this year.

“Beyond the potential for ‘little Fockers’ jokes, I’m not completely blown away. Viagra-related jokes, really? I keep telling myself that this is just the trailer – not the movie itself, and there is some decent stuff here. The turkey-carving scene seems reminiscent of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Which could be good, so long as it’s not completely derivative. In fact, doesn’t the whole thing have a bit of a Christmas Vacation vibe? We just need an electrocuted cat, a sled that’s faster than a bolt of lightening, and Randy Quaid with an RV. Right?” EW writes, arguing that the Fockers might have lost their magic touch in the studio’s rather desperate attempt at milking this for the last cent.

New additions to the cast include Jessica Alba, Owen Wilson, Harvey Keitel and the kids Daisy Tahan and Colin Baiocchi. Below is the first trailer at “Little Fockers,” watch it and see what you make of it. Of course, as usual, enjoy.
