Two pieces of Mac software have received updates recently, those being TrailRunner, the route-planning application, and VueScan, a powerful scanning solution available on Mac, Windows and even Linux. Their developers have just announced the updates, while existing users are encouraged to download and install the latest versions.

TrailRunner is updated on a weekly basis, and can display maps and elevation data from web-based mapping services like USGS topo maps, import GPS recordings from Trails for iPhone, as well as import tracks and workouts from GPS fitness devices like the Garmin ForeRunner or Garmin Edge.

Version 3.0 Build 500 delivers both bug fixes and improvements. Berbie has been able to fix beep on keyup in map, and a potential login problem for nikeplus accounts, as well as resolve an issue where the black info panel button was missing in bottom map tools. As far as improvements are concerned, Berbie lists the following:

- Added add activity from selected route button to map toolbar. - Added a Help chapter on settings in application preferences. - Added a workout types filter to the main document activity browser filter pane. - Improved playback speed for activities.

Next up, VueScan. Version 8.6.15 is a maintenance update for the powerful, cross-platform scanning solution by Ed Hamrick (Hamrick Software). It improves color correction for many scanners, as well as the 'Profile | Profile scanner' command. It adds support for wireless LaserJet MFP's on Mac OS X and fixes problems with document feeders on Mac OS X. On the Windows side, the update fixes a problem with some wireless HP scanners. Presumably available for all platforms (since no OS is specified), fixes have also been made for problems with Minolta Scan Dual III, Minolta Scan Dual IV, and some Avision scanners.
