The new handset might not feature Windows Mobile

It seems that Toshiba is getting ready for the launch of another mobile phone. For the time being, it is still uncertain whether the company will opt for Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform for the new handset, just the way it did with the already announced TG01.

GCF announced recently that Toshiba received approvals for two mobile phones, one of them being TG01, with the second one “To Be Advised.” For what it's worth, it seems that the company does not intend to unveil too much information about its new handset for the moment, otherwise it would have provided GCF with the name of the device.

As for the specification list of the new mobile phone, it seems that it is about the same as that of TG01, at least in what the connectivity features are concerned. Thus, the unnamed device comes with quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900)/GPRS/EDGE support, as well as with single-band WCDMA (2100 MHz) with enhanced support for HSDPA and HSUPA.

According to the specs the company provided, the new device also supports Web browsing. At the same time, we should note the fact that, while TG01 has the GCF number 1706, the unnamed handset has the number 1715, which suggests that it is a newer model than the Windows Mobile-powered smartphone.

For the time being, TG01 is the only phone from Toshiba to feature both a lot of innovations and Microsoft's operating system. It remains to be seen what platform the company will choose for the second handset that has been unveiled. Given the fact that Toshiba is a member of the Open Handset Alliance, we might see Google's Android operating system running on the device, but there is also a great chance that Windows Mobile would remain the primary option for the company.
