It’s a common fact that one of the most popular series of devices T-Mobile has on sale is the MDA lineup, which includes handsets that run under Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. While the series is one of the most appreciated from the carrier, and the relationship between T-Mobile and Windows Mobile seems to be a rather close one, things are expected to change in the near future.

According to the latest news on the Web, the mobile phone operator has plans to move towards Google's Android platform, while leaving the WinMo OS aside. The conclusion regarding such a move comes from what ms mobiles reports Reinhard Clemens, board member at Deutsche Telekom (the owner of T-Mobile), to have said: “Android will be a Windows of future.”

To make matters worse, he also stated that the Microsoft operating system did not feature a high level of power efficiency, as it “devours too much energy.” In addition, Clemens also stated that Android looked like a great option given the fact that it provided operators with the freedom of being independent from hardware makers.

One of the Android-powered handsets that everyone knows of is the T-Mobile G1, which is quite popular both in the US and in Europe, while the next-to-come G2 (HTC Magic) is also expected to prove a great success on the market. At the same time, more and more mobile phone makers have announced their intentions to release Android-powered handsets.

For the time being, the fact that T-Mobile will focus on Android devices does not necessarily imply that it will stop selling Windows Mobile-powered phones, yet we should expect to see it add to its offering more Google OS-based handsets than WM ones. The fact that Android sees such a fast traction from both manufacturers and carriers means that Microsoft will face some hard times in the future, yet the Redmond company already announced plans to release updated versions of its platform, namely the WinMO 6.5, which is to come this year, as well as WM 7, which should become available next year.
