More than four months after we have first laid our eyes on Toshiba’s AT200 tablet, the company has announced the US availability of the 10.1-inch slate which is said to debut in mid-Q1 2012 under the Excite X10 name.

Meant to become a premium Android tablet, the 7.7mm (0.3 inches) thick Excite X10 is the slimmest 10.1-inch slate around and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 Cortex A9 SoC paired together with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM.

Two configurations with either 16GB or 32GB of storage space are available, while the rest of the specs list includes a 5MP rear-facing camera, a 2MP front-facing snapper, Micro HDMI, Micro USB, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

As most other 10.1-inch Android tablets, the Excite 10’s display has a resolution of 1280x800 and also offers 178-degree viewing angles.

According to Toshiba, the built-in battery pack can provide up to eight hours of running time, but despite the large battery the Excite 10 weights just 1.18 pounds (535g).

Initially, Toshiba’s tablet will run the 3.2 version of the Android OS, also known as Honeycomb, but an Android 4.0 ICS update should arrive soon after.

"Excite X10 pushes the boundaries of what a thin and light tablet is capable of, delivering elegant styling without sacrificing features or durability," said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division.

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Excite X10 tablet will be available in the US starting with mid-Q1 2012 from major retailers and e-tailers as well as from Toshiba’s own online store.

Pricing for the 16GB version of the Excite X10 was set at $529.99 (417 EUR), while the 32GB model has an MSRP of $599.99 (about 472 EUR).
