Should start selling this month

Toshiba seems to have decided to come out in force. Not only did it release multiple Intel Calpella-powered laptops, but it even prepared one that has support for Blu-ray 3D and NVIDIA 3D Vision. It can already be seen that the PC maker intends to make a full product refresh, at least on the mobile PC front. This, of course, would imply an update on the netbook segment and, sure enough, Toshiba has put together the UX/24M, slated to debut this month.

The UX/24M, for the most part, is identical to all other netbooks currently on the market. It has a screen size of 10.1 inches, a panel with a native resolution of 1024 x 768 and the same storage, graphics and connectivity capabilities as most machines outed over the past several months. There are two things that differ, though.

In fact, it could be said that only one element is different and that said element inherently changes the second aspect. In short, the Atom N450 CPU is replaced by the Atom N455 which, though it has the same clock speed of 1.66GHz, supports DDR3 instead of just DDR2. This ensures an overall better performance, even though the rest of the feature set is not particularly outstanding.

For those interested in specifics, Toshiba implemented a hard disk drive with 250GB of storage space and the Intel GMA 3150 integrated graphics.

As for connectivity and I/O, the dynabook UX/24M comes with 10/100 Ethernet, an SD/SDHC card slot, 1GB of DDR3 RAM, WiMAX, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a built-in webcam. No doubt this product will have to contend with competition on the part of ASUS and its FCC-tested Eee PC 1016P. The outcome will depend on how the latter does against the former's $653 price point and whether it begins shipping before or after the month is out.
