Might still sell a lot

You can count on GameStop to break news stories related to videogaming by simply publishing a price listing on its website. This time, the fact that came under scrutiny is the price that the big retail chain has attached to the new Tony Hawk game, called Ride. Apparently, the title, which is being sold together with a skating peripheral, will cost no less than 120 dollars, which is almost double the price of a AAA videogames.

Even considering the price, Tony Hawk Ride will probably sell very well, taking into account the sales numbers posted by the Guitar Hero World Tour bundle, which sells with instruments for a price of 190 dollars.

It seems that Activision is really interested in introducing peripherals to as many of its new releases as possible. We've already mentioned the Guitar Hero series, which is getting a new installment, Guitar Hero 5, on the first day of the fall, with another set of instruments packaged together.

DJ Hero, the game that aims to bring music simulation to those interested in electronic music, is coming with a plastic turntable. Ride is arriving with a skate-like item that can be used to simulate the moves of a pro skateboarder. The main reason behind this peripheral mania is that the bigger price allows for big revenue even if unit sales are not extremely high.

Tony Hawk Ride is a reboot of the long-running skating franchise. The first game, Pro Skater, was released in 1999 and, until 2007, the series was regularly updated. The last release was beaten soundly by the Skate title launched by Electronic Arts, and Activision has waited until now to unveil a new Tony Hawk game trying to give fans of the series some time to breathe. More details will be offered at the E3 trade show.
