The world was shocked to hear late last year that multi-Grammy winner Toni Braxton was not only bankrupt but she also had debts in excess of $50 million. In a candid interview to promote her upcoming reality show, “Braxton Family Values,” Toni explains what happened.

When word got out of her financial problems, many assumed she’d been living well beyond her means, later spending like a true diva money that she didn’t even have.

That’s far from the truth, Toni herself tells PopEater’s Naughty But Nice Rob during a promo interview for her upcoming reality show.

If she’s now in troubled financial waters, it’s because of her health issues and not because of her diva spending, she stresses.

“I had health issues that led to my financial issues. And my issues weren't necessarily me personally, financially. It was me, business,” she tells Rob, as the video below will confirm.

As for filing for bankruptcy and then having word get out that she was over $50 million in debt, Toni says people were wrong to assume it was her eccentric lifestyle that led to both.

“I live well. But instead of having three houses like I had, it’s just not like that anymore,” she says.

In the same interview, the “Unbreak My Heart” singer also explains why she chose to jump on the reality show bandwagon, underlining that the decision didn’t come from her.

When she agreed to open up her life for the cameras, though, she only thought of her fans and how they should and had a right to know the truth.

“It was my sisters’ idea to do the show. They told me I had to allow my fans into my life. That meant having cameras following me around,” says the star.
