It’s already a known fact that British actor Tom Hardy (“Bronson,” “Inception”) beefed up for the role he’s currently shooting, that of Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises.” In the meantime though, fans can also catch him in this year’s “Warrior.”

A much smaller production than Nolan’s superhero movie and definitely not as mediated as that one, “Warrior” comes from director Gavin O’Connor (“Miracle”) and tells the story of two brothers.

The first poster for the film has just been released and, as The Flick Cast notes, it’s definitely meant to get the attention of the ladies who wouldn’t otherwise be drawn to it because of all the fighting in it.

One look at it and it becomes easier to understand: though he’s bruised and battered almost beyond recognition, Tom is also flexing his impressive muscles for the poster – as also is his co-star Joel Edgerton, who plays his brother in the film.

“Haunted by a tragic past, former Marine Tommy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for SPARTA, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history,” the synopsis of the film reads, as cited by the aforementioned e-zine.

“A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brendan (Joel Edgerton), an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin,” it further says.

So far so good, but the real drama begins when the two brothers, estranged for many years, have to face each other in the ring.

The Flick Cast, for one, believes this twist in the plot may be a tad hard to believe, but stresses that both actors have what it takes to pull it through in a very convincing fashion.

“But when Brendan’s unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed,” the synopsis further reads.

“Warrior” comes out on September 9 but, if what you read so far sounds like something you might want to see in theaters, below is also the official trailer. Enjoy.
