After months of waiting HTC Desire HD owners with Three UK branded devices will be happy to know that the highly-anticipated Gingerbread update is now being deployed OTA (over-the-air).

The announcement came via Twitter and put an end to the almost two months waiting for Three UK customers who purchased the popular HTC Desire HD smartphone: “The Desire HD update is now ready for OTA upgrade.”

Furthermore, the carrier also stated that Android fans who bought the original HTC Desire would have to wait a bit more for the Gingerbread update.

In this regard, HTC announced two weeks ago that it would try to bring the Gingerbread on the original Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience.

However, because of the low memory that the phone packs, HTC decided to cut several apps from the release to make room for Gingerbread.

The Taiwanese handset manufacturer will release the rollout timeframe for the new Gingerbread ROM for Desire early next week.

Three is among the last carriers in the UK that deploys the Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade for the HTC Desire HD, as Vodafone and T-Mobile units have already received the update last month.

UK users with unbranded HTC Desire HD got their Gingerbread update almost two months ago, as well.

Three UK customers should receive a notification on their HTC Desire HD device that will inform them about the availability of the Gingerbread update.

As soon as the updating process is complete, a wide range of improvements, new features and bug fixes will be noticeable.

Among these enhancements, one can notice the improved user interface, as well as the new Android keyboard with easy copy/paste feature.

In addition, HTC Desire HD users will be able to take advantage of the improved Power Management, Internet Calling support and multiple camera Management.
