UK owners of the HTC Desire HD have been blessed with the Gingerbread update two weeks ago, but those with T-Mobile variants of the device have been left out.

However, the carrier has just announced via Twitter that the highly-anticipated Android 2.3 Gingerbread software upgrade is now available for download:

Great news for HTC Desire HD users, Android 2.3 Gingerbread update is now available :O) Enjoy!” Users with unrooted Desire HD devices should receive a notification on their phones when the update is ready to be downloaded and installed.

Those anxious to flash the new update faster can manually check the software update by going to Menu / Settings / About Phone / Software Update.

Vodafone UK was the first carrier to release Gingerbread for Desire HD, while HTC and Google made the update available for unbranded Desire HD versions soon after.

Although the carrier did not release any changelog for the update, it brings lots of enhancement, new features and bug fixes, including enhancements to the user interface, new Android keyboard with easy copy/paste feature, improved Power Management, Internet Calling support, multiple camera Management.

The Desire HD was the first smartphone powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8255 1GHz processor, unlike previous HTC devices which embedded the QSD8250 1GHz CPU.

HTC Desire HD was delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo out-of-the-box and packs 1.5 GB of internal memory and 768 MB RAM.

Along with HTC Desire Z, the Desire HD is fully compatible with all services offered by the newly launched HTCSense.com portal.

Other highlights of the phone include 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen, 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash, HD video recording capabilities, HSDPA 14.4 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity.

On related news, the software upgrade was recently pushed to Desire HD smartphones in India as well, after HTC made the announced almost a month ago.
