Sega has just revealed that it is preparing "two or three" big Sonic announcements at the beginning of 2011, in order to follow-up the relative success of the recent titles like Sonic 4, Sonic Colors or Sonic Free Riders.

Sega admitted that it had exploited Sonic, its main mascot, with sub-par games in recent years, but things are really turning around, at least according to its Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Alan Pritchard.

The Sega executive also revealed that the recent games had been pretty positively received, as opposed to older ones.

"We're looking to improve the quality and focus of a pure Sonic platform gaming experience. We have released Sonic 4 digitally, which has reviewed very well.

"Free Riders was really about being a part of the launch of Kinect. Then, we have Colours, which is our pure Sonic gaming experience. That's had some high scores. It's also the highest pre-selling pure Sonic title we've had ever.

"That's a good indication. With the quality of the game, we're confident of that. That's our pure platforming Sonic."

According to Pritchard, Sega is preparing a few new Sonic announcements for the beginning of 2011, in order to capitalize on the newfound success of its classic mascot.

"We have some announcements in the early part of next year that will further support and add to this strategy. There will be two or three big Sonic announcements in the early part of next calendar year."

It seems Sega has finally realized that Sonic can be brought back to his glory days with quality titles released on all platforms.

Without a doubt one of those announcements will be the second episode for Sonic 4, but the other ones are still a mystery.
