While Thortech is not what I would call an everyday name in the consumer PSU market, the company has been building industrial and server grade power supply units for more than 15 years, and now it has just announced the launch of two new high efficiency gaming oriented PSU series, dubbed the Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt Plus.

Judging by the spec sheet provided by the company, both series look surprisingly similar, the most important differences between the two being the introduction of the iPower Meter control panel in the Plus models, and the number of 12V rails available.

However, all the power supply units feature 80Plus Gold certification, a modular cable design, Nvidia SLI and AMD CrossFire compatibility, low ESR 105°C solid state capacitors, and are cooled by a 135mm ball bearing fan that adapts its speed according to the temperature inside the PSU.

Furthermore, the units are designed to sustain at 50°C ambient with full wattage output and carry a wide range of protection circuits (OCP, OVP, OPP, UVP, SCP, and OTP) and certifications.

All the Thunderbolt models support quad 12V rails and the least powerful of the four models available is rated at 650W (62A combined on the +12V rails).

The 850W can deliver a maximum of 70A on the +12V rails, the 1000W model 80A, and the 1200W PSU a whopping 100A.

Moving to the Thunderbolt Plus line, Thortech has decided to go with a single +12V rail that is able to deliver 65A in the case of the 850W model, the 1KW and 1.2KW models delivering the same amount of amps as their Thunderbolt counterparts.

As noted before, the Plus series units carry the iPower Meter interactive PSU control panel which allows the user to monitor the actual efficiency, wattage, temperature and the fan speed mode of the PSU.

Sadly, no details about pricing was provided but all the power supplies feature a five-year warranty.
