Now that the string of custom-made GT 430 video board releases has, more or less, settled down, other companies are taking their turns at unleashing new products, and Thortech decided it was time to make itself heard better by revealing a new power supply.

Thortech is a relatively new company on the power supply market but, if anything, it knows how to draw attention.

What it just did was show off its second product, the 800W Thunderbolt Plus PSU that seeks to entrance prospective purchasers through two main assets.

The first asset is the more straightforward one and comes in the form of compliance with the 80Plus Gold certification.

For those interested in a reminder, the 80Plus rating system defines those PSUs that are highly efficient and classifies them in 80Plus Gold, Silver, Bronze.

There is also an 80Plus Platinum certification, very difficult to achieve, though FSP managed to meet its requirements.

The Thunderbolt Plus also has a more unique feature to make it stand out, however, besides just its high energy efficiency.

Apparently, Thortech decided that consumers could do with a more direct way of monitoring and tweaking the voltage, so it threw a 5.25-inch control panel into the product bundle.

The rest of the feature set includes compliance with the ATX 12V V2.3 and EPS 12V V2.91 standards, a single 12V rail, an Active PFC and a MTBF of 100,000 hours.

Furthermore, the hardware maker added a 135 mm ball bearing fan, the ability to function at 50°C ambient with full wattage output and, last but not least, low ESR 105°C solid state capacitors.

Unfortunately, the hardware maker did not provide any sort of pricing details, though it did mention that the newcomer is accompanied by a five-year warranty.

The full set of information on the Thunderbolt Plus can be found on the official product page that has already been added to Thortech's website.
