Opera 11.50 was launched a couple of days ago. Perhaps expecting a download deluge, Opera also added a counter to its homepage to keep track of downloads while also comparing the total number to some random fun facts.

Two days and a couple of hours later, Opera is already way past 10 million downloads. In fact, there are now more Opera 11.50 installs in the wild than there are Lady Gaga Twitter fans, of which there were 10,792,731 when Opera last checked.

"There are millions of little monsters around the world, and we all know why... Who doesn't love a woman that dresses up for the 'Video of the Year' award dressed in meat? It might be some socio-political kick about something, but we don't care. All we see is what should be on the BBQ," Opera noted.

"With more than 10,792,731 twitter followers Lady Gaga, passed the former king of Twitter: @aplusk. Lady Gaga with her Claw and Bacon is the Queen of Twitter," it added.

Opera is getting close to 11 million downloads and its next milestone which - spoiler alert - is the number of World of Warcraft subscribers, 11.4 million.

That's an impressive feat for the small browser maker, while it's not as impressive as Firefox's stats for example, it comes close.

Firefox 4 got 7.1 million downloads in the first day and 15.85 million within two days, but Firefox 4 was a highly anticipated release, not like the minor Opera 11.50.

Granted, Opera may be fiddling with the automated update mechanism to make sure that it gets as many downloads as possible. Firefox has a more gradual roll-out to make sure that the download servers don't overload.

Still, it should be interesting to see how Opera 11.50 does in the next few days, the counter doesn't stop until it reaches 35 million downloads.
