14 DAY TRIAL // One of the most anticipated releases of this winter is the thriller starring two of the most famous and beautiful people on the planet, “The Tourist.” The official poster for it is out – and it’s rather disappointing.
As fans must know, “The Tourist” sees Angelina Jolie as a mystery woman weaving her mysterious web to get Johnny Depp into a situation he neither wants to be in nor can handle.
The action is set in Venice, as the first trailer for the film, released a while ago, also indicated. The film sees Johnny Depp’s character falling for Angelina’s, even if he’s completely aware she’s no good for him.
Since this movie boasts two of the biggest stars of showbiz, it’s understandable to have them front and center in the poster as well, as ScreenCrave also points out.
However, from focusing on the faces of the two to this, what came of the poster, is a rather long way – and someone took the bad Photoshop journey a bit too easily, word in the blogosphere has it.
“What do you do when your film features two of the most recognizable people on the planet? You make a poster that highlights the money shot — their faces!” SC writes.
“The first poster has been released for the Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck thriller The Tourist. The film stars Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie and like most movies that deal with a clueless man caught in a web of intrigue… ‘it all started when he met a woman’,” the e-zine further points out.
So far, so good. Nevertheless, they don’t say for nothing that the road to hell is paved with good intentions, since this seems to have been the case here too.
“This poster looks like it was made in a junior high Photoshop class. They just superimposed their faces on top of each other against a plain background. This isn’t a good sign,” ScreenCrave writes.
“It’s bad enough that the ‘chemistry’ between these two in the trailer was non-existent, now we have to deal with this. It makes us think of dead fish. Cold, dead, fish,” the e-zine says.
While the part about the on-screen chemistry between Angelina and Johnny being non-existent is debatable, many voices online concur to the part about how bad the poster is.
“The Tourist” is not out until December 10 – plenty of time for the movie studio to make things right by fans.
