It’s probably one of the most anticipated releases of the winter and, with leading actors like Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, it’s no wonder it’s so. The first official trailer for “The Tourist” is out.

Much has been said about the film, ranging from speculation on the plot to rumors on the two co-stars’ relationship – luckily, the trailer comes to shed some light on the former.

In the film, Johnny Depp plays a regular guy (whose name even is nothing out of the ordinary, Frank) on vacation in Italy with the purpose of mending a broken heart.

Angelina Jolie is Elise, an unspeakably gorgeous woman who chooses to cross paths with him for a very specific reason – a reason to which the trailer only alludes.

The bottom line is, after the two meet, all hell seems to break loose, and Frank suddenly finds himself a target of killers and assassination attempts.

As the trailer embedded below also shows, the film will not be lacking lighter moments, to which Johnny Depp seems to contribute to the greatest extent.

For instance, one shot shows Frank (Depp) going to the authorities to “report a murder.” When he changes his mind and says “well, attempted murder,” the man he’s talking to tells him “that’s not that bad.”

From here, Frank goes into a discussion on how attempted murder doesn’t seem like much “if you downgrade from murder” but, if you use as comparison “room service,” then it’s certainly something he should be worried about.

All in all, the film feels like a beautiful blend of action, humor and even some potentially tear-jerking moments, topped with performances from two gorgeous and very talented actors.

Or, as Entertainment Weekly's PopWatch puts it, “Boy, does it look goooooood!”

“Yes, Angie does seem to be working a bizarre accent, but that’s okay. (Mercifully, she doesn’t sound anything like Olympias from Alexander.),” EW writes.

“From the jazzy score during the Strangers on a Train-ish kick-off, to the glory of the Venetian cityscape, to the artful dodging of bullets as Depp and Jolie speedboat through canals, I am sold,” the e-zine says.

“Dialogue sounds promising, too. ‘You look ravenous,’ Johnny says to Angie. ‘Do you mean ravishing?’ she replies. Oh, yes,” writes the same publication.

“The Tourist” is scheduled for theatrical release in the US on December 10. Below is the first official trailer for it. Enjoy.
