Truly a multimedia center, rather than an average console

The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awarded Sony for their PS3 console, the best home entertainment device, according to the judges. Obviously the Blu-ray playing capacity of the device was an important positive aspect of the PS3, setting it apart from the other next-gen consoles. Sony's latest gaming device is truly an entertainment and media center, being an audio, video and photo player and a web browser at the same time.

Also, the PS3 offers the users 60GB of storage space, for neat entertaining content, like movies, music or games. The device supports Ethernet, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and also a surprising number of 4 USB interfaces, which allow the user to attach external hard disks and keyboards to the console. As I mentioned before, the fact that the PS3 is a great Blu-ray player is a major advantage, as Sony's product can also read DVDs, CDs and SACDs, also working with the latest sound formats.

The excellence award is well-deserved if you consider that the console supports a 1080/24p resolution, even for the DVD movies playback. This resolution is available through a HDMI interface, which grants gamers and all of the PS3 owners superb graphics, sometimes better than those on the Xbox 360. In case you've bought the console for its multimedia player capacities, things will get comfy, once you start using Sony's standard remote, supported by the PS3.

All in all, Sony deserves this award and this can really be considered a life-saver, as the company's been having some trouble recently, with its firmwares and with its Halo-hating employees. This is probably one of those few moments of glory, when the PS3 is considered better than the Nintendo Wii, although the sales figures indicate a different trend among gamers.
