Initially set to arrive towards the end of March, The Passing downloadable content for Left 4 Dead 2 will actually come out this week, with Valve confirming that the new package will cost 560 Microsoft Points, which is the equivalent of about 7 real-life dollars.

The Passing is noteworthy because it involves both the people who survived the zombie apocalypse in the first game in the series and those who managed to evade the flash hungry zombies in the second one. The twist Valve has planned is that one of the original four, Francis, Bill, Zoey, and Louis, died before the events seen here, although the company would not reveal his identity before the actual launch of the DLC.

There are also new weapons, like the super heavy M60, introduced in the DLC and new special infected enemies are coming for the survivors, including one that might be the fallen friend they left behind.

After the launch of The Passing, Valve also plans to put out new DLC for the first Left 4 Dead, detailing how the four survivors got into trouble and how they were forced to make a choice about whom to leave behind for the zombies. The game creators are also talking about putting out a comic showing what happened before The Passing and telling the canonical story of the character’s death.

Valve is also saying that it has worked with Harmonix in order to put out two tracks for Rock Band sung by the Midnight Riders, the fictional biker heavy metal bands with violence issues. Fans of Left 4 Dead can get two songs from the band for free, One Bad Man and Midnight Ride, taken from the album High Heels & Brushed Steel, a Greatest Hits compilation put out by the group.
