Multiple-level content

Valve is really aiming to do something new with the interplay between the original Left 4 Dead and its sequel, which was launched last year. The upcoming downloadable content, called The Passing, will see the two sets of survivors of the zombie apocalypse meet up, but it seems that the crew from the first game will be short on one man.

Appearing on an episode of GameTrailers TV, Chet Faliszek, one of the main writers working at developer Valve, has said that the name of the DLC refers, quite bluntly, to the fact that one of the survivors that players have become attached to is set to fall prey to the zombie horde. The Valve man has refused to say which of the four will be killed.

The subtitle of the new content is “Nobody Survives Forever,” giving more clues about the demise of one character. Given the set of skills required to survive the zombie apocalypse and the backgrounds of the characters from the first Left 4 Dead, Louis is the most likely victim. After all, IT department types can't run and gun as well as bikers of the former Green Berets.

The Passing is set to be launched for Left 4 Dead 2 before April is done and, about one month after the launch of that piece of DLC, those who own the first Left 4 Dead will be able to pick up a piece of downloadable content that shows exactly the situation in which the unnamed character actually dies. Valve is also planning on putting out a comic that will show fans the exact canonical death scene.

The Passing will be made up of three maps and will also introduce a new enemy character, a survivor who carries valuable items and will try to run away from the rest of the survivors rather than fight them. Players will have to wait for the DLC to come out in order to know exactly who is the fallen survivor.
